Introduction

This short course will cover the fundamentals of corrosion sciences—thermodynamics and kinetics. The outcome will be on the application of the corrosion theories in analyzing the deterioration of the materials reacting with corrosive operational environment. The course provides practice sessions in laboratory corrosion measurements.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able:
  • explain the thermodynamics and kinetics of corrosion
  • evaluate various corrosion measurement techniques
  • perform laboratory corrosion measurement

Trainers

Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mokhtar Che Ismail (MCI) is the founder and head of the Centre for Corrosion Research (CCR). He joined UTP in 1998 with eight years professional experience in materials, corrosion and inspection engineering practices. For the last 20 years at UTP, he has been spearheading research and consultancy in Materials, Corrosion, and Inspection (MCI) areas. He is a subject matter expert in corrosion recognized by both academic and industrial sectors.   He had successfully completed more than 40 research projects amounting to RM 30 million. He had published more than 100 papers in various proceedings and journals. He is actively involved in the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) promoting corrosion education and collaborative work between university and industry. Dr. Kee Kok Eng is a teaching faculty in Mechanical Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)  as well as an active core researcher of Centre for Corrosion Research (CCR), specializing in oilfiled corrosion issue, corrosion inhibitor (CI), failure analysis, and multiphase flow.   Since 2014, he has been actively involved in a number of CI qualification tests based on various request of industrial consultancy work from upstream oil producers and chemical service providers. He is also authors and co-authors of a number of peer-reviewed journals on corrosion and material science. He is also a corrosion committee member of IMM and international NACE member.
