IntroductionSustainable and renewable energy development has entered a new era with the potential of producing biofuel from microbes and insects. Specifically, microalgae and larvae have been recognized as the third generation of biofuel production and could potentially replace fossil fuel in the future. This short course provides intensive lecture and learning about microalgae cultivation, cell disruption & harvesting, method to grow larvae and conversion of microalgae and larvae to biofuel.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Learn the basic knowledge of microalgae biofuel production
- Learn the basic knowledge of larvae biofuel production
TrainersDr. Lam Man Kee received his PhD in Chemical Engineering (Renewable Energy) from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2014. Besides, he has more than 8 years experiences in growing microalgae for biofuel production, as well as consultancy project with industry related to algae research. Apparently, he has published more than 70 papers in ISI/SCOPUS-indexed journals with total citations of 2800 and H-index of 22 (SCOPUS database, January 2019). He is currently serving as the Deputy Editor of International Journal of Biomass & Renewables (UTP Press) and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Advanced Chemical Engineering (Omics International). Dr. Ho Yeek Chia obtained her Ph.D. (Environmental) in 2015. She has 10 years experience in academic institutions as well as industries. YC is teaching different courses which include Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, Sludge Management and Disposal, Wastewater Engineering, Sustainable Development for Engineer, Wastewater Treatment for Oil and Gas Industries and etc. She is currently a Secretary in International Water Association (IWA) for Design, Operation and Maintenance of Drinking Water Treatment Plants and member in The Malaysian Water Association (MWA). She has published several works in invited review papers, invited book chapters, international indexed journal papers, and international conference papers. Also, she has won a few national awards in publications and international awards for her research works, one patent and two trademarks were filed. Dr. Lim Jun Wei (AMIChemE, MRSC) was conferred with the Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Chemistry from Universiti Sains Malaysia in year 2009. He later received his Ph.D. qualification in Environmental Chemistry from the same university in year 2013. Accordingly, he has published more than 100 research papers inclusive of book chapters of late. In terms of professional associations, he is the Associate Member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (AMIChemE) and Member of The Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) at international level and Professional Chemist registered with Institut Kimia Malaysia at national level. He is also one of the Graduate Technologists under the Malaysia Board of Technologist. Besides, he has joined the Editorial Board Members of Chemical Science and Biomolecular Engineering under Boffin Access and Archives of Biochemical Engineering under Somato Publications. Ir. Dr. Pau Loke Show is the director of sustainable food processing research center and co-director of Future Food Malaysia Beacon of Excellent in University of Nottingham Malaysia. He successful obtained his PhD in two years’ time after he graduated his bachelor’s degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is a member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE) UK and currently serves as honorary member in IChemE Biochemical Engineering Special Interest Group. Ir. Dr. Show obtained the Post Graduate Certificate of Higher Education (PGCHE) in 2014, and now a fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK (FHEA). He establishes international collaboration with researchers from various countries in the Asia, Europe, American and Africa. Since he started his career in September 2012, he has received numerous prestigious domestic and international academic awards, including Nation Young Scientist 2019 Award, ASEAN-India Research and Training Fellowship 2019, The DaSilva Award 2018, JSPS Fellowship 2018, Top 100 Asian Scientists 2017, Asia’s Rising Scientists Award 2017 and Winner of Young Researcher in IChemE Malaysia Award 2016.
