IntroductionThis course covers the fundamental concept of risk and uncertainty inherent in engineering projects. Participants will acquire the principles, methodology and application of the various methods related to the management strategy in dealing with the threats and opportunities represented by each risk in engineering projects. Case studies and examples across a wide spectrum of engineering projects covering diverse factors such as safety; environmental impacts; societal reactions; time and cost overruns; quality control; legal issues; financial considerations; and political risk, are examined making this suitable for engineering project practitioners in comprehending the fundamentals of risk management.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able:
- Identify and document significant risks inherent in engineering projects
- Acquire the skills to assess project risk using quantitative and qualitative tools
- Gain skills in developing risk management plans
- Be able to monitor project risks throughout the life cycle of the project
- Assess the contingency resources needed to counteract the negative aspect of risks
- Be able to assess the impact of risk on project deliverables to the stakeholders.
TrainerAssoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkipli Ghazali received his Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (1983), MBA from the International Management Centre, UK (1998) and PhD from the Universiti Technologi MARA Malaysia (2010). He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Management and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Bandar Seri Iskandar Perak, Malaysia. He is teaching Project Management and Engineering Economy at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Prior to his academic appointment, he has 20 years industrial experience with the main tasks in project management and production management. His research and academic interests include management and organizational studies. He focuses on Organization and Management of Plant Turnaround Maintenance, Project Management with the applications of engineering economics.
