IntroductionThis course will expose the participants to the understanding and interpretations of the financial statements. Participants will be trained to use the right tools to perform ratio analysis and financial forecasting. Methods and techniques will be introduced to participants in understanding the financial performance of a company. This course covers fundamentals of finance that include financial statements & analysis, time value of money, valuation process, business analysis, costs & Costing, management of working capital, operating cycles, financial planning and investment appraising tools. This course will not only to increase participants’ understanding of financial decisions but also to get answers to practical problems that can be related to their day-to-day operations.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able:
- To describe the concepts, techniques and tools of finance in business organizations (Knowledge/Comprehension Level)
- To apply the methods and techniques in financial analysis and decision making (Application Level)

TrainerAssoc. Prof. Dr. Maran Marimuthu, is an Associate Professor/Program Manager, MBA-EM Programme, at the Department of Management and Humanities, UTP. Maran Marimuthu holds a doctorate in Finance from University of Malaya. His Phd work is on capital structure involving GLCs and Non-GLCs in Malaysia. He obtained his MBA in Finance from University of Malaya and. He teaches engineering economics, operations management, corporate finance, research methodology, etc. He has conducted a number of trainings for industry including at PETRONAS Plants in Kerteh related to finance and cost optimization. To date, he has published more than 100 international refereed journals (including ISI/SCOPUS indexed journals) and conference proceedings (local and overseas). He has co-authored books on Financial Management, International Finance and contributed articles for both local and international magazines. He has served as a Consultant for Sate Government, industry and Dr. Maran Marimuthu has been involved in more 12 research grants (internal and external grants) as Leader/Principal Investigator and supervising 10 doctoral and masters students in the related area. He also has a special interest in the multidisciplinary work. Dr. Maran Marimuthu has corporate experience of 5 years and almost 20 years of academia career as Lecturer and Researcher. He is an active Member of MIM, MFA and Learned Bodies.
