Introduction

This course will expose the participants to the understanding and interpretations of discounted cash flow valuation, cost components of project evaluation, effects of inflation, methods of describing project risk, probability application for investment decision and the probability distribution of NPW.  

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able:
  • To describe the concepts, techniques and tools of project evaluation in business(Knowledge/Comprehension Level)
  • To apply the methods and techniques in project risk and uncertainty in investment decision(Application Level)
  • To interpret the findings and making the best investment decision [Analysis Level]
       

Trainer

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maran Marimuthu, is an Associate Professor/Program Manager, MBA-EM Programme, at the Department of Management and Humanities, UTP. Maran Marimuthu holds a doctorate in Finance from University of Malaya. His Phd work is on capital structure involving GLCs and Non-GLCs in Malaysia. He obtained his MBA in Finance from University of Malaya and. He teaches engineering economics, operations management, corporate finance, research methodology, etc. He has conducted a number of trainings for industry including at PETRONAS Plants in Kerteh related to finance and cost optimization.   To date, he has published more than 100 international refereed journals (including ISI/SCOPUS indexed journals) and conference proceedings (local and overseas). He has co-authored books on Financial Management, International Finance and contributed articles for both local and international magazines. He has served as a Consultant for Sate Government, industry and Dr. Maran Marimuthu has been involved in more 12 research grants (internal and external grants) as Leader/Principal Investigator and supervising 10 doctoral and masters students in the related area. He also has a special interest in the multidisciplinary work. Dr. Maran Marimuthu has corporate experience of 5 years and almost 20 years of academia career as Lecturer and Researcher. He is an active Member of MIM, MFA and Learned Bodies.

1  Introduction to Valuation in Project Evaluation   ¨ Concepts and application of concepts in Financial Decision ¨ Discounted Cash Flow valuation ¨ Multi-period cases ¨ PW, FW, AW, CR, CC, perpetuity, growing perpetuity, arithmetic gradient. ¨ Hands-on Interpretation of the tools discussed & discussion on the results (introducing excel)
2 Application and Decision Making   ¨ Cash flow analysis ¨ Cash flow analysis with effects of inflation ¨ Rate of return analysis under inflation ¨ Methods to describe project risk ¨ Probability Distribution of NPW ¨ Decision on Mutually Exclusive alternatives
