IntroductionThis course provides participants with an overview of the integrated reservoir modelling and characterization process for isolated carbonate build-ups in Central Luconia and Subis outcrop in Sarawak, Malaysia. The training course has been designed to take participants through a series of structured workflows and procedures for a better integrated reservoir modelling workflow. Each content provide the opportunity to learn fundamental approaches in developing and working in reservoir modelling enabling to designing a suitable development strategy. The training data set is an isolated carbonate platform from the Sarawak basin, Malaysia. Common geological techniques such as maps will be used.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the conceptual reservoir model and digital reservoir model
- Understand the need of core and thin sections description from fields and outcrop analogue for better understanding of carbonate depositional environments and reservoir quality.
- Carry out studies of rock and fluid properties.
- Strong understanding of stratigraphic correlation framework and structural model building.
- Understand the need for continuously updating the reservoir development plan during the different stages of the reservoir or field life.
- Perform uncertainty and sensitive analysis including hydrocarbons resource estimation
- Learn to QC of data versus interpretation as an integral part of the course.
TrainersDr Mirza Arshad Beg is a Principal Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Department of Geosciences and currently he is heading SEACaRL at UTP. He teaches carbonate geology and reservoir characterization and modelling. He has more than 26 years of extensive regional & international E&P experience and worked with PETRONAS Research, SHELL, Qatar Petroleum, Halliburton, Petrofield, DIALOG and PETRONAS. He led PETRONAS Carbonate Centre (CEDC) and a multidisciplinary team and completed more than ten (10) Field Development Planning (FDP/FFR) projects, reviews, and execution. Dr Abdul Halim is currently leading the Centre for Subsurface Imaging (CSI), an oil and gas industry-oriented research centre in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). He obtained his MEng, MSc and Doctorate from Imperial College London, UTP and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) respectively with special interest in seismic technology and deep-earth seismology. His main area of expertise is in seismic processing and imaging, both for active and passive seismic (including earthquake seismology). With several years as an industry practitioner with CGG Malaysia as well as researcher and academician with UTP, Halim is on a mission to spread the knowledge in geosciences and nurturing more earth scientist for a sustainable and better future. Dr. Luluan Almanna completed his Doctorate & M.Sc. in Petroleum Geosciences (By Research) from UTP, Malaysia and a B.Sc. in Earth Physics from ITB Indonesia. Prior joining the UTP, from 2007-2009, he worked and acquired geophysical data measurements at several places in Indonesia, Bandung, Jakarta, East Java, Bali, Sulawesi and Kalimantan. In 2013, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Geosciences Department. Luluan, is a full time researcher in the Centre Of Seismic Imaging (CSI) at UTP, where the Centre collaborate well with PETRONAS and PETRONAS Research. He joined the department of Geosciences UTP in August 2013. His research interest is on implementing theoretical, empirical, experimental and computational Rock Physics for reservoir quantitative interpretation. Mr Jairo Antonia is currently a Principal Geoscientist (Geomodeler) in PETRONAS. He was involved in heavy oil fields volume evaluation in Venezuela, Naturally fractured reservoir in Vietnam, Integration of 4D seismic into geocellular models offshore Malaysia. Participated on Data reviews in Cuba, Venezuela and Brazil. CTE (Committee of Technical Excellence) member for approval and QC static models and active coach in geomodeling for junior geoscientists. He has contributed a methodology for integration Depofacies-Lithofacies-Rock typing into geocellular models using Petrel and developed the handbook for the standardization for building geocellular models in PETRONAS. Mr Khaidir Rahmatsyah is currently a Global Support Manager in Baker Hughes, Netherlands and lead the team to deliver superior upstream software technology support and drive the strategy that focuses on relevant processes and collaborative relationships across the business. He has more than 20 years working experience in upstream software technology business, sub-surface data management and integrated reservoir modeling. Starting from Geoscience role and moving up to diverse technical roles and multiple lead position covering Upstream Technical Software worldwide global operations. Ms Grisel Jimenez received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the Mayor de San Andres University in 2008 and Master Degree in Reservoir Geology at Montpellier University in France in 2013. After graduating from Mayor de San Andres University. Grisel worked for 6 years in Oil and gas exploration for PETROBRAS and YPFB: National Oil and Gas company in Bolivia. As part of her professional experience, she has worked in Exploration and Development in many sedimentary basins in Western Cordillera, North and South Sub Andean of Bolivia and northern Argentina, Deepwater Angola, Offshore Japan, Santos Basin, Brazil, Luconia province in Malaysia, both in Exploration and Development including several domains from Sedimentology and 3D Reservoir Modelling.
