IntroductionIntroduction to Seismic Interpretation is a Level 1 course is specifically intended for future Geoscientists-to-be with the main objective of equipping the participants with a robust understanding of the basis behind seismic interpretation and its methodology that are applied and practiced in the oil and gas industry. The course consists of three main outcomes that will be covered in three days which includes introduction Geophysics, seismic wave theories and an overview of seismic interpretation methodology. There will be an overview on the basics and concepts related to seismic data such as its generation, acquisition, processing and wave theories followed by practical examples to showcase the importance of seismic data in the oil and gas industry.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 1.Learn the concept of Geophysics & the roles of Geophysicists. 2.Differentiate and understand the types of seismic data, seismic acquisition, and processing. 3.Learn the basic workflow and theory behind seismic interpretation.
TrainersHas total 19 years of experience in Oil and Gas industry with the main domain in Geophysics and business technical management. Started career as technical Geoscientist at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd before joined UZMA Engineering Sdn Bhd as Geophysicist before then appointed as General Manager leading Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering department and Subsurface Solution Division. Have experienced in almost all Geophysical aspect ie Seismic Data Acquisition (2D and 3D Operation and technical onsite for Land and also marine), Seismic survey planning, QC and design, Seismic Interpretation in 2D and 3D domestic and overseas project, Seismic Attribute analysis-more than 10 years. My domain skill is as Seismic Interpreter and leading the team for FFR, Resource Assessment, Due Diligent, Regional Study, FDP and also work with equity partner (Geophysicist) in RSC project. As Geoscientist, technical team leader to ensure technical capabilities development for team, Value Assurance for Geophysical part to ensure follow technical requirement by clients. Before joining UTP, he served as a Principal in Reservoir Geophysics for Petronas Carigali with main responsibilities of leading field development plans and exploration prospect evaluation in Malaysia as well as international concessions. Dr Elsaadany is a well-rounded geo-scientist with 29+ years of multi-disciplinary experience in both Upstream exploration and production. His main skills are play based exploration, portfolio & prospect maturation, near field exploration/development, operational execution, coordination of geophysical/geological input to Field Development Plans, structural analysis/tectonic evolution and seismic interpretation (2D & 3D volume interpretation). He has worked with Shell Egypt Joint Venture, Cairo Egypt in Western Desert and Mediterranean, mud logging and operation in Gulf of Suez, Nile Delta and Western Desert, Egypt. Dr Elsaadany has a MSc and a PhD in Geology, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He is currently teaching Seismic Interpretation, Principles of Stratigraphy and Petroleum Geology for UG in addition to sharing in Geophysics Course-Work Master Course at Petroleum Geoscience Department. Dr Abdul Halim Abdul Latiff is currently leading the Centre for Subsurface Imaging (CSI), an oil and gas industry-oriented research centre in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). He obtained his MEng, MSc and Doctorate from Imperial College London, UTP and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) respectively with special interest in seismic technology and deep-earth seismology. His main area of expertise is in seismic processing and imaging, both for active and passive seismic (including earthquake seismology). With several years as an industry practitioner with CGG Malaysia as well as researcher and academician with UTP, Halim is on a mission to spread the knowledge in geosciences and nurturing more earth scientist for a sustainable and better future. A Technical Sales Geoscientist with two years of experience in Oil & Gas Business Development and Project Management. Key responsibilities include key point of contact for clients, pre-sales and post-sales support, and G&G product and portfolio development. Experienced as Account Manager for seismic acquisition projects. First-hand technical experience in non-seismic methods acquisition and interpretation; electrical resistivity survey, gravity & magnetic survey. A versatile Petrophysicist with nearly two years of oil and gas industrial experience in the area of Petrophysics, Geophysics, Project Management and Business Development. Involved in multiple subsurface studies with a multi-disciplinary team and actively contributed to the decision-making processes, the team’s workflow and project deliverables. Key technical skills include seismic interpretation, fluid contact analysis and identification of behind casing opportunities.
