Introduction

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy studies the physical, chemical and biological properties of a matter. This technique works on a basis of the difference produced when a nuclei absorbs and re-emits radiation when exposed to a magnetic field. The versatility of NMR makes it an essential tool in an array of fields’ including chemistry, biology, physics and medicine.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • understand the underlying mechanism behind the operations of NMR Spectroscopy
  • comprehend the practical aspects of NMR Spectroscopy sample preparation
  • utilize a wide variety of NMR experiments to aid in their respective research areas

Trainer

Dr Cecilia Devi Wilfred is an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS with more than 16 years of research experience and 4 years’ experience in industry. She obtained her PhD in Organic Chemistry from University of York in 2004. She is a Member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) since 2011, RSC and a Member of Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM). Most of her projects involve the use of NMR Spectroscopy for molecular structure elucidation. She has delivered talks related to her research areas as Plenary, Keynote and Invited Speakers to several public and private organizations in Ionic Liquids research.

  • Introduction to 1D and 2D experiment in NMR
  • Problem solving with examples of spectra 1D, 2D NMR
