IntroductionWide range of reliability concept has been introduced in engineering application such as Life Time Reliability, Time Dependent Reliability, Structural Reliability, Network Reliability, Bayesian Reliability, System Reliability, Human Reliability etc., which each has a unique reliability quantification framework. These concepts evolved over time due to the need to quantify various uncertainties inherent in engineering system performance. It is important to be able to select correct analytical tools for reliability analysis of offshore foundations. This introductory course in reliability will provide the participants with sufficient background knowledge on the sources of uncertainties in different engineering system and to select an appropriate analysis for his/her specific problem and apply this knowledge to reliability analysis of offshore foundations. It will also enhance the participant’s understanding on the concept of probabilistic engineering designs and safety assessment of offshore foundation systems.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, participants will be able:
- Identify different reliability analysis concepts
- Understand various sources of uncertainties in engineering system designs and performance
- Select suitable reliability analysis framework for practical problem of offshore foundations
- Conduct reliability analysis for offshore foundations
TrainersDr. Indra Sati Hamonangan Harahap has conducted research in application of numerical methods in geotechnical reliability analysis, slope risk management and submarine slide simulation. He has developed geotechnical probabilistic analysis software for various uncertainty representation (statistical parameters, probability density function, random field model), geotechnical applications (slope with and without reinforcement, pile foundations, earth retaining structures), uncertainty quantification methods (MVFORM, FORM, SORM, MC, Reduced Sampling Technique) and design paradigms (reliability-based design and robust design). Dr. ISH Harahap has published numerous technical conference and peer reviewed journal articles both locally and around the world in different areas of Geotechnics and geo-hazards, offshore structural integrity and reliability etc. He is currently an Associate Professor at Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. Dr. Ahmad Idris is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. His researches are in the area of structural integrity and reliability as well as stochastic process modelling. He developed the computational framework for time dependent reliability analysis of offshore structures, leading to the development of computer software for the reliability analysis of special cases of structural systems.
