INTRODUCTIONThis course is specifically intended for young aspiring engineers with the objectives of equipping the participants with a robust understanding of the resource and reserves evaluation and its classification. In this course, the participants will learn and understand the resource classification system, evaluation of reserves estimates and the linkage of reserves to project economics. Participants will also get a review of reservoir rocks and fluids properties essential for evaluating hydrocarbon reserves. This will be applied in the next part of this course on reservoir engineering analysis using Material Balance and Decline Curve Analysis. Participants coming out from this course will be equipped with the practical knowledge of resources and reserves evaluation fundamental to reservoir management.
OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 1.Understand the definitions and differences between resources and reserves 2.Learn the classification of resources and reserves 3.Evaluate industry practice on resources and reserves evaluations and estimations 4.Apply Material Balance and Decline Curve Analysis for reserves estimation and reservoir management.
- Definitions of resources and reserves
- Petroleum resources classification
- Resources uncertainty categories
- Reserves estimation – Deterministic and Probabilistic
- Basics of reservoir rock & fluid properties
- Material Balance Analysis
- Decline Curve Analysis
Dr Iskandar bin DzulkarnainDr Iskandar Dzulkarnain is a faculty member in the Petroleum Engineering Department and currently head of research center COREOR (Centre for Research in Enhanced Oil Recovery) under Institute of Hydrocarbon Recovery (IHR) in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). He obtained his Ph.D in Petroleum Engineering in 2018 from Louisiana State University (LSU), USA with research in gas injection EOR, specifically on the three-phase rock and fluid interactions during Gas-Assisted Gravity Drainage (GAGD) EOR. He also graduated with MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the joint Heriot-Watt and UTP program (2010) and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UTP in 2007. He has been teaching and conducting research related to EOR in UTP since 2010.
Mr Ezzam Abdul RazakA Petroleum Engineer professional with 18 years total experience in oil & gas industry, 13 years of which was specialized in reservoir engineering. His technical experience in subsurface planning and development covered both oil and gas fields as well as both green and brown fields. After gaining project management experience earlier in his career, he then focused more on reservoir engineering and simulation. Throughout his career he has also published and presented technical papers at various SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) events sharing his findings and experience in subsurface study. His papers were subsequently cited in many studies and technical papers which focusing on thin oil rim development and gas-cap gas management
