Introduction

Utilization of response surface methodology (RSM) has been increasing lately due to its benefit. RSM offers a wide range of analysis from the design of experiments, screening of parameters, analysis on variance, F-test until multiple optimization of responses. These features were essential in making a strong case for your research and data validation. Thus, internalizing the data provided by the tools are very critical in order to have a better understanding of the process.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able:
  1. To guide the participant in selecting the best design of experiment for research study.
  2. To familiarize the participant with the response surface methodology tools.
  3. To assist the participant in interpreting the data provided by the RSM tools.
  4. To give hands on experience for the participant in using the RSM tools.

Trainer

  Dr. Muhammad Syafiq Hazwan is currently working at Chemical Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) as a Lecturer. He is a member of Centre of Research in Ionic Liquid (CORIL), Institute of Contaminant Management (ICM) UTP. He is also an associate member of Centre of Lipids Engineering and Applied Research (CLEAR), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His research interests are extractions of natural product, heavy metal recovery from heavy oils, solubility and kinetic modelling, process optimization, natural products and ionic liquid.

Course Contents

This two-day course will cover the following aspects (case studies may be included in some topics):
  1. Introduction to response surface methodology.
  2. Designing your experiments.
  3. Generation of DOE table.
  4. Generation of surface plot and contour plot for the response.
  5. Generation of mathematical expression for the response.
  6. Perform the ANOVA analysis and F-test for the response.
  7. Perform a multiple optimization for multiple response based on desirability function.
  8. Consultation on available data from participants.
