Introduction

This course introduces participants to technical writing by helping them to internalize the skills and standards necessary to produce good clear writing. Participants are also exposed to various aspects of language skills for the effective use of technical English. They will be given the opportunity to refine their skills and understanding of the language concepts arranged in logical and useful sequence. This course is pitched at the advanced level.  

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Demonstrate the application of the basic skills in producing effective technical document
  • Produce clear, concise and effective technical document
   

Trainers

Dr. Hairuzila Idrus, is a senior lecturer with the Department of Management and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Iowa, USA, Masters in TESOL from Central Connecticut State University, USA and PhD in Education from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. She has been teaching at tertiary level for more than 20 years and among the courses that she teaches are Academic Writing, Technical Writing and Professional Communication Skills. Her research interests include Education, particularly Engineering Education, and Applied Linguistics. Ms. Azelin Mohamed Noor, is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Management and Humanities. It has been a decade since she joined Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) with a Master of Education in Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL). Both her Master and Bachelor Degree were conferred by Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM) Shah Alam.  Azelin has a colourful career; after obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, she worked as a Producer in a post-production facility in Selangor and then moved to Copywriting of below the line promotional products. Then, Azelin progressed to managing a business in corporate gifts for clients such as Dialog and BP.  After experiencing various professions, Azelin decided on the academics and began her career as a part-time Lecturer with UTP until her current appointment as Senior Lecturer. She teaches Academic Writing and Professional Communication Skills to all Engineering and Technology students.  Other than teaching, she is an active member of the Institute of Sustainable Living. Among some of the research she conducted were on scholarship of teaching and learning, sustainable awareness of rural communities and stakeholder perceptions.
